“Every longing of my heart you satisfy…you love, you love, you love to satisfy.”
Wow. I can’t believe from where you’ve taken me in the past few months. You let me have the desires of my heart – a degree, a fiancé, the opportunity to travel the world – to find that it was all utterly meaningless and empty without You. I was lost, searching to be found in people, places, things – none of which could satisfy. I was drifting, wandering without sense or purpose – seemingly spinning deeper into in an inescapable void of unending longing,
until YOU brought me home.
In the ultimate expression of your mercy, LOVE and grace, You came to my rescue – removing me from my pit of darkness and drowning me in your illuminating light. You ALWAYS come.
Since bringing me home, The Lord’s been speaking me a lot through the number 116. It shows up in various forms: 11:16, 1:16, 9:11 – but it’s kind of been his signature for me, like he’s just letting me know he’s involved. At first, I thought this had to do with Romans 1:16 –
“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”
It’s a pretty well-known verse in the wide world of Christianity, especially if you’re familiar with the 116 Clique, a band of sold-out for the Gospel rap artists including Lecrae, Andy Mineo and (my personal favorite) KB. So anyway, this number has been showing up in my life A LOT.
For example, remember how I mentioned the Lord told me to leave my job with United Way (if not, check out my former post: I am). At the time, I also had (and still have) a part-time job working Saturdays at Bedrock Auto Sales, a small, family-owned car lot in Fort Worth. Right after leaving United Way, a series of unfortunate events led the car lot to need me full time (coincidence?), giving me the opportunity to redo their website for them, birthing d_lightfullcreative. Also during my time there, the Lord has just been abundantly blessing me with sales, including two in one day – with their first payments due on 1/16!
Which brings me to today: 1/16/18. I had two job interviews today, and I’m excited to see what He does. I know and trust that he’s moving me to Dallas, where my home church, Upper Room, is located, and that he’s doing it all in his perfect timing. All I have, and all I need, is His promise that He is a good father and faithful provider, and all He has is my yes.
Psalm 116: I Love the Lord
116 I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my pleas for mercy.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!”
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
6 The Lord preserves the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest;
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling;
9 I will walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
10 I believed, even when[a] I spoke:
“I am greatly afflicted”;
11 I said in my alarm,
“All mankind are liars.”
12 What shall I render to the Lord
for all his benefits to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.
16 O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your maidservant.
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
